The obligatory, poorly-informed post on 'A'-level results

It’s ‘A’-level results day and I’m sure that the op-eds have already been written saying that exams are being dumbed down. The more responsible newspapers have probably prepared articles saying that the young of today are more stupid than ever in case results worsen. Simultaneously, there are perceived problems with too much alteration to the curriculum.

There does seem to be a problem with the ‘A’-grade; too many people are now achieving the category and so the top universities want something with finer resolution. Private schools are already moving to the International Baccalaureate. We might as well bite the bullet by moving to the IBac across the board – an established system free from perceived, political interference that has the advantage of greater international portability, preference by universities and not having to choose three or four subjects at 15 or so.

xD.
