Right, I’ve just watched it and the point stands that there is resemblance between the avatar and the real you.
Now, as for whether it should be public or private, you yourself said that you don’t think anyone is suggesting a completely private enquiry.
The security implications is a good point and the mechanisms of intelligence are ‘national interest’. A completely open enquiry would certainly be a free for all [a show trial, you called it] and those Iraqi workers certainly need to be protected.
On the other hand, Dave, you surely must see that a whitewash is equally not going to be tolerated by a public which is very, very angry at this current time over the Labour government’s performance.
Why can’t the enquiry fall halfway between these two extremes?

It depends on what you want from the process. As I said, this is not Nuremburg and the outputs are going to be ‘we should have taken the window of toleration’ as Dannatt said today. If it goes out to lay blame – which I maintain is the prerogative of Parliament and the electorate – then it will be distracted from its aim and will fail.
