Against the odds, an Israeli soldier has been convicted of the murder of Tom Hurndall. I covered this story a couple of times for the LSE SU’s newspaper.
xD.

I don’t see what the basis was for saying “against the odds” what basis was there for such a statement?
Also let’s not forget If a Palestain had shot a pro-Isreali activist he would be praised-no way would he be convicated
And the idea that the Palestinin forces would routienly have a Jew in their forces in the same way that the Isreali’s had this chap (an Arab) is unthinkable. Obviously in this case the choice was not ideal to put it mildly, but I think it better to have a society that allow people of differetn ethnic groups to serve in its forces.

Comment on the prior comment: A Palastinian can be Muslim, Christian and (gasp) yes, even Jewish – so the chances that a Jew who is also a Palistinian might be involved militarily as a Palastinian is not out of the question. In Israel there are Arabs who are (gasp, gasp) Jewish. The bottom line is that we are all human but the Israeli military often forgets that as they sit in their towers firing on people below, many of whom are children armed only with rocks. No we don’t need more ethnically diverse military forces in this world – we need less military….
